Nightmare type 1

I created this video to relay how living with Type 1 diabetes can feel sometimes (often) to ME AS A FATHER. Especially in the middle of the night when everyone else in the world is sound asleep........the only people awake are the night prowlers and those of us that are forced to silently creep into our childs' room and take their blood-NIGHT AFTER NIGHT.
*This video is not meant for children-I would NOT show it to my child*

Good video, though it is dark. You might want to let folks know it's about diabetes a little sooner. Or leave some clues for them by showing some syringes or a meter.

Did you see the news last week about Dr. Faustman? I think it's very exciting and I'm hoping and praying for good things. God bless.

Bernard,
Thanks for your comment. I was trying to go as long as possible in the video to "hide" the real message. I think that so many people tune out when they realize the real message......so I was hoping a little mystery would keep people viewing longer....not just those in the Diabete's community.

Dark is really how I feel, so my message has been delivered. But I have to agree that I hold my breath and watch Dr. Faustmans' work with great HOPE. I didn't mention her in the video since she has her hands full already. This video has received mixed reviews and she doesn't need any more drama-except for the type we all hope for!

On the creative side....very good!! Not your typical diabetes awareness youtube/tudiabetes video for sure!!

As I watched it, I sensed the need to bring people to the understanding that diabetes is real, it has real "dark" issues...a good thing.

However,on the flip side, I don't sense a "monster" lurking about as I watch my son laugh, play and be a "normal" kid. Yes, I know diabetes is there and it constantly needs attention, but a "monster"? I can think of a ton of other "monsters" that I'd rather NOT visit our home.

So there is a delicate balance... wanting to make people aware of the dark side of diabetes, but still being optimistic and hopeful and living life to the fullest in spite of diabetes. I don't want diabetes to WIN in our home!!

I guess I don't have a good or bad rating....if you wanted dark, though...you achieved it!!:-)

Lynnea,
Excellent feedback and yes I was going for the shock effect here. I do feel this way sometimes, but I don't let it show (other than this video). I felt the need to purge and show the other side and reach out and drive home that even though we go through great pains to be as normal as possible, this is an evil thing that has happened and we need to do something to solve this. Not just bandaids but a serious cure. There are many layers to the video and the darkness is only the first, it certainly does hammer home the point, but continue to dig and there is much more there. It is not everyones' cup of tea (I am learning). It has its' little place and should be kept in proper context and perspective. Thank you so much for your comments, I really am learning a great deal from this experience!

Having also grown up with T1DM since I was six yrs old, I commend you dad2tara on creating this video.
Diabetes is a Monster and I have both types of scars(Body & Soul) that is now a part of me.
The battles I fight are constant in trying to stay centered where the dregs of Complications do not take over this Gift of Life.
Yes, there are more "tools" available in the management of T1DM, however that all pervasive Cure which I even heard mentioned of as a child has not arrived and........the hearing of "just around the corner" remains as elusive as it ever was.
To have a smile on one's face knowing that there are many many people w/o eyesight, limbs, and a lost Autonomic N.S. because of Diabetes and in spite of "good numbers," is both absurd, morally wrong and insensitive.
